The new EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM lens assembly consists of 14 lenses in ten groups and includes an aspherical lens to correct chromatic aberrations. The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM provides the exceptional imaging performance required for today's high-resolution sensor cameras. The ASC (Air Sphere Coating) coating additionally improves the image quality. This multi-layer technology combines conventional anti-reflective coating with a coating for low refractive index, minimizing lens reflections and ghosting in the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM.

The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM is equipped with a nine-louvre iris aperture and has a high luminous intensity of 1:1.4, making it ideal for available light photography and allowing for precise control of the depth of field. This also allows an attractive bokeh to be achieved. The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM's four-step optical image stabilizer compensates for camera shake and provides crisp, sharp images. The combination of image stabilizer and high luminous intensity makes the EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM also ideal for filming. Accordingly, the fixed focal length is also compatible with all cameras of the Cinema EOS series.

The autofocus is powered by a high-speed USM motor, which, together with the lens' CPU and the camera's AF algorithms, enables fast and precise focusing. The AF is also virtually silent, which allows for a particularly discreet photography and filming. Manual focusing on the lens is possible at any time.

The Canon L-Series features the same robustness as the Canon L-Series. The EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM's dust and splash protection and the fluorine coating of the front and rear lenses make it ideal for use in any weather.
